®Poodles2007 - 2010

In 1995, I was reading a book by Mackey J. Irick, Jr. entitled The New Poodle.

In the chapter on British Toy Line was a picture that I fell in love with.

I read everything I could find about Grayco and began my quest to find a Grayco toy to own and show.

The line began with the Wychwood Gatesgarth Monarch line.

In 8 of 9 years, a direct descendant of Monarch was either Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex at Crufts. The first English Toy to go Best in Show in the United States was a Monarch.

Quoting from Irick's book: Eng. Ch Ranji's C'est La Vie, a black, was bred to Eng. Ch Bartat Burnt Almond of Grayco, to produce England's most famous Poodle of recent years, IR/Eng. Ch Grayco Hazelnut was born July 23, 1989. Hazelnut's most exiting win was Best in Show at the 1982 Crufts Dog Show in London over 9,884 entries.

Hazelnut began her illustrious career as a finalist for Puppy of the Year in 1979, as Supreme Champion Stakes Winner in 1980, and was that year voted Our Dogs' "Top Dog" and Dog World's "Dog of the Year.

She has 34 Challenge Certificates, 29 of those with Best of Breed Awards, including Crufts 1980, 1981, and 1982. She has 11 Utility Group wins at Championship Shows and seven All Breed Championship Shows Best in Show, including the Ladies Kennel Association 1980 over a world record entry of 11,964 dogs. Eng. CH Grayco Hazelnut also had 12 Bests in Show at Poodle Club Ch. Shows. Bred, owned and handled by Mrs. Lesley Howard.

IR/Eng. CH Grayco Hazelnut was a daughter of Eng. Ch Ranji's C'est La Vie who came from the Monarch line.
